What You're Training On

A PLC is the ruggedized computer that keeps a plant running.

A Programmable Logic Controller is an industrial digital computer built to run machinery and process lines reliably, in conditions no office computer could survive — heat, vibration, electrical noise, dust. It reads the state of the plant through sensors, decides what should happen next using logic you write, and drives motors, valves and actuators to make it happen.

Every PLC system is built from the same four building blocks: a CPU that executes your program, a power supply that conditions incoming AC into the DC the system runs on, I/O modules that connect to field sensors and actuators, and a programming device used to write and download logic to the controller.

On the floor, a PLC runs in a constant loop — read inputs, execute logic, write outputs — dozens of times a second, which is what lets it hold a packaging line, a conveyor, or a batching process in tight, continuous control.

The Scan Cycle

01
Input Scan
Reads every connected sensor and switch, converting field signals into data.
02
Program Execution
Runs the control logic — Ladder, FBD, ST or SFC — against that input data.
03
Output Scan
Drives motors, valves and actuators based on what the logic decided.
04
Housekeeping
Runs diagnostics and communication tasks before the cycle repeats.

Programming Languages

Four ways to write the same logic — trained on all of them.

LD

Ladder Logic

Mirrors relay wiring diagrams — the default language across Indian industry and the easiest entry point for an electrical background.

FBD

Function Block Diagram

Blocks and connectors represent functions and data flow — suited to complex algorithms and process control loops.

ST

Structured Text

A high-level, Pascal-like language for math-heavy logic and calculations that ladder diagrams handle poorly.

SFC

Sequential Function Chart

A graphical map of sequential steps — built for batch processes that move through a defined order of stages.
